Recreational razor clamming now open from Tillamook Head to the south jetty of the Coquille River

Friday, August 03, 2018

SALEM, Ore.—The Oregon Department of Agriculture (ODA) and the Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife (ODFW) announce a portion of the coast is re-opened for recreational razor clamming as domoic acid levels have fallen below the closure limit.

Recreational razor clamming is now open from Tillamook Head to the south jetty of the Coquille River.

Recreational razor clamming remains closed from the south jetty of the Coquille River to the California border for elevated levels of domoic acid toxin.

Recreational razor clamming is also closed from the Columbia River to Tillamook Head for ODFW's annual razor clam conservation closure. This closure is not related to biotoxins and does not affect razor clam populations south of Tillamook Head. The conservation closure is in effect from July 15 to Sept. 30 each year.

ODA will continue to test for shellfish toxins every other week, as tides and weather conditions permit. Re-opening of an area requires two consecutive tests below the closure limit.

For more information please call ODA's shellfish safety information Hotline at (800) 448-2474 or visit the ODA Recreational Shellfish Biotoxin Closures webpage or ODFW’s Recreation Report – Crabbing and Clamming page
