ODFW hosts free family fishing event at Trojan Pond April 27

Tuesday, April 23, 2019

CLACKAMAS, Ore. — The Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife will host a family fishing event at Trojan Pond on Saturday, April 27 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.

These events are designed to help kids and their families learn fishing basics, and enjoy a day outside. ODFW will provide rods and tackle on a first come, first served basis. Staff and volunteer angling instructors will be there to offer assistance and answer questions. The pond will be stocked with rainbow trout before the event, so fishing should be good!

Registration is not required, and fishing is free for kids 11 years of age and younger. A youth license is required for anglers 12-17 years of age and can be purchased for $10 on-line at ODFW’s website (www.myodfw.com), or at any ODFW field office or retail license agent. Adults are also welcome to fish but must have a valid fishing license in possession. Licenses will not be sold on site the day of the event so individuals planning to attend should purchase their license ahead of time.

Trojan Pond is one of more than 350 water bodies in Oregon that ODFW regularly stocks with trout. Persons interested in fishing can explore many other opportunities by perusing ODFW’s stocking schedules, maps, guides and other resources at ODFW’s website, located at www.myodfw.com under the “Fishing” tab.

Trojan Pond is a 15-acre pond located approximately 4.5 miles southeast of Rainier on the north side of Hwy. 30, at the old Trojan nuclear facility site. The pond is located on the right side of the road as soon as you turn onto the Trojan Access Road.

ODFW will be hosting similar events around the state. For a complete list, visit https://myodfw.com/workshops-and-events/2019-family-fishing-events
