Sign up now for Jan. 16 Trout Fishing 101 class in Albany

January 5, 2021

SALEM, Ore.—Learn how to fish for Oregon’s most popular game fish—trout!

Three separate Trout 101 classes will be offered on Saturday, Jan. 16 at Sportsman’s Warehouse (1351 Waverly Drive SE) in Albany, staggered to start at different times (9 a.m., 11 a.m., and 1 p.m.) and each with a maximum capacity of 10 participants to allow for social distancing.

Each class begins with about two hours of classroom time, where instructors will cover where to go, how to start, gear you need and how to clean and process what you catch. Then participants head to a nearby pond to test their trout fishing skills with the help of from ODFW personnel and Angler Education Instructors.

ODFW will bring all needed fishing gear, but participants are welcome to bring their own fishing setups and lures if they prefer.

Register at ODFW’s licensing page. The cost to register is $20. More on how to register below.

Since the class includes fishing, everyone 12 years of age and older who attends must have a valid angling license. Purchase online or at a license agent (including Sportsman’s Warehouse) before the class. An annual angling license is $44 for adult residents, a combo license for kids age 12-17 is $10.

All participants must wear masks.
