Commission meets Oct. 25 to continue discussion of Rogue-South Coast Plan

October 21, 2021

SALEM, Ore.—The Fish and Wildlife Commission will meet Monday, Oct. 25 at 2:30 p.m. to continue the discussion of the Rogue South Coast Multi-Species Conservation and Management Plan and provide more direction on the Plan to staff. See the meeting agenda here

No public testimony will be taken as the meeting will continue the discussion from the Oct. 15 meeting, where more than 80 people signed up to testify.

The meeting will be livestreamed at ODFW's YouTube channel and can be viewed here https://www.dfw.state.or.us/agency/commission/minutes/

The Plan will guide management of winter steelhead, summer steelhead, coho salmon, and cutthroat trout in coastal watersheds of southwest Oregon, from the Elk River south to the Winchuck River, including the Rogue River.

The draft Plan was developed and revised after extensive engagement with stakeholder teams, habitat representatives, tribes, NOAA Fisheries, independent scientists, anglers, and public comment.

Most of the actions in the draft Plan have broad support, except for the issue of wild steelhead harvest and some elements of the proposed hatchery program.

The Commission is still scheduled to adopt a final Plan at the Dec. 17 meeting.

During the meeting, the Commission may also hold an Executive Session pursuant to ORS 192.660 (2)(f) to consider information or records that are exempt by law from public inspection, as well as to consult with legal counsel concerning legal rights and duties regarding current litigation likely to be filed as authorized by ORS 192.660 (2)(h). Members of the media may listen to the Executive Session but may not report on the discussion. Members of the media should contact Michelle Tate (Michelle.L.Tate@odfw.oregon.gov , (503) 947-6033) to join the Executive Session.
