SALEM, Ore.—ODFW staff are working to update the Oregon Administrative Rules (OARs) for the Salmon and Trout Enhancement Program (STEP), which works with volunteers to help restore salmon and trout fisheries.
Staff will be hosting a public webinar to discuss proposed rule changes on Feb. 9 at 6 p.m. See information to join the webinar below.
The OARs for STEP were last updated in 1986 and revisions are necessary for STEP to adapt to listings under the Endangered Species Act, which were not in place at the time the original OARs were written. New policies and plans that govern the management of fisheries resources in Oregon have also been adopted by ODFW since the original OARs were written.
The process to revise the STEP OARs has been ongoing since November of 2020, and this public webinar gives interested individuals and stakeholders an additional opportunity to have questions answered about the OAR revision process.
For more information about the draft rules and what's proposed to change, visit the STEP program website at https://www.dfw.state.or.us/fish/STEP/index.asp

Oregon's STEP program helps direct the work of thousands of volunteers who help Oregon's fisheries by helping to hatch and rear millions of salmon and trout eggs, restore stream habitat, conduct surveys and help with education projects including the popular Salmon in the Classroom.
