CLACKAMAS Ore. — Stocked rainbow trout will be waiting for anglers who attend the Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife’s family fishing event at Sheridan Pond on Saturday, May 13. The event will take place from 9:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. Registration is not required.
For those who do not have their own gear or are new to fishing, ODFW will provide rods, reels, tackle and bait free of charge on a first-come, first-served basis. Attendees are welcome to bring their own fishing equipment if they prefer. Volunteer angling instructors will be on site to answer questions and demonstrate effective fishing techniques.
The fishing event is open to the public, although some people will need fishing licenses to participate. Anglers ages 11 and under can fish for free, while those 12-17 will require a youth license, available for $10 at ODFW's website (myodfw.com) and license agents. Adults will need a regular fishing license. Licenses will not be sold on-site the day of the event, so people planning to participate should get their licenses ahead of time.
Sheridan Pond is one of more than 350 water bodies in Oregon that ODFW regularly stocks with trout. Stocking schedules, maps, fishing guides and other resources can be found at myodfw.com under the "Fishing" tab.
Sheridan Pond is a 2 ½-acre pond located on the edge of the town of Sheridan. An old mill pond, it has plenty of bank access, parking and a restroom. To get there take Hwy 18 to Exit 33 onto Balston Rd. Go south on Balston Rd. approximately half a mile and turn left onto a gravel road leading about a quarter-mile to the pond.
