CLACKAMAS, Ore.—A family fishing event scheduled for Saturday, May 20 at St. Louis Ponds near Gervais has been cancelled due to poor water quality conditions at the ponds.
“Unfortunately, a prolonged period of warm temperatures has raised the water temperature and lowered the dissolved oxygen levels in the ponds, resulting in conditions that do not allow ODFW to stock trout for the event,” said John Cox, fish biologist for the Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife’s North Willamette Watershed District.
St. Louis Ponds is a 54-acre complex of seven ponds jointly owned and managed by ODFW and Marion County Parks. ODFW has made a number of improvements at the ponds in recent years, including a paved ADA accessible trail and a couple of ADA accessible fishing platforms. In addition to stocked trout, the ponds contain several species of warmwater fish, including largemouth bass, catfish, bluegill, crappie and sunfish.
A majority of the trout planned for stocking at St. Louis Ponds this week will be rerouted to Henry Hagg Lake next week.
