Cape Meares Lake treatment postponed

July 13, 2023

TILLAMOOK, Ore. — The treatment of Cape Meares Lake with aquatic herbicide to kill invasive weeds has been postponed.

An inspection by the contractor on July 13 found the Eurasian watermilfoil to be behind in its growth cycle and missing from much of the lake. Treatment at this time would not be effective.

ODFW will be monitoring the lake closely and will proceed with treatment once the milfoil starts to grow back.

As the treatment has been postponed, previous guidance to stay off Cape Meares Lake during the treatment and not use lake water to irrigate broadleaf plants is also cancelled for now.
