Bowhunting skills, shotgun skills classes coming up in central Oregon

June 14, 2024

SALEM, Ore.—ODFW is hosting several workshops for people new to hunting in central Oregon this summer, including two shotgun skills classes (June 22 and July 13 at the Bend Trap Club) and a two-day bowhunting skills workshop June 29-30 at Three Rivers Archery Park in La Pine.

Find more information and a link to register online at the MyODFW.com Workshops & Events page, https://myodfw.com/workshops-and-events ODFW hosts outdoor skills classes throughout the state in a number of locations throughout the year so keep checking the page as more classes will be added.

Bowhunting skills workshop
June 29-30 (two days)
Three Rivers Archery Park, La Pine
Fee: $35
This is a beginner-level workshop where participants will learn to shoot compound hunting bows from trained instructors. Day one includes hands-on training in basics of archery fundamentals, equipment, and theory. On day two, participants are placed in a variety of hunting scenarios on a 3D archery course to better understand how to make ethical (and hopefully successful) decisions in the field. ODFW provides all equipment. This workshop is designed for adults aged 18 and older with little to no archery experience.

Shotgun skills classes
June 22 or July 13
Bend Trap Club
Cost: $25
Participants will learn everything about shotguns from nomenclature, ammunition, firearm safety, handling, and shooting skills on moving targets to be more successful while hunting ducks, upland, and other game birds as well as improving performance at the shotgun range. Shotguns and ammunition provided. This workshop is designed for adults age 18 and older.
