Commission meets Sept. 12-13 in The Dalles area

Sept. 5, 2024

SALEM, Ore.—The Fish and Wildlife Commission meets Sept. 12-13 for a field tour on Thursday and a regular meeting on Friday in The Dalles area.

See the agenda and register to testify remotely on an agenda item at https://www.dfw.state.or.us/agency/commission/minutes/24/09_Sep/index.asp The meeting will also be livestreamed from the Commission page.

Thursday's tour leaves from the Best Western Hood River, 1108 E Marine Drive at 8 a.m. Members of the public may join the tour but must provide their own transportation and lunch.

On Friday, the Commission meeting will start at 8 a.m. at Fort Dalles Readiness Center, 402 E Scenic Dr in The Dalles to consider the following agenda items:

Commercial Dungeness Crab Regulations: Adopt revisions to the Tri-State pre-season testing protocol, line color and marking requirements to help identify gear involved in marine life entanglements, modify rules related to removal of derelict crab pots by contracted vessels and electronic monitoring requirements for crab vessels to transit closed areas. The line color and marking requirements are part of ODFW's progress toward developing a Conservation Plan and Incidental Take Permit application to address marine life entanglements.

Access & Habitat Project Funding: Approve funding to open private land to hunting by renewing several access areas and increasing acreage in the Jackson Travel Management Area.

2025 Big Game Regulations: No major changes are proposed for next year's regulations but see the agenda item for season dates, tag numbers and other information. One proposed change would increase flexibility for department customers visiting wildlife areas by allowing them to display their ODFW ID in the window of their vehicle as proof of permit, rather than needing to print the permit.

ODFW staff will also provide an update on progress implementing the 3-Year Action Plan for Beaver Modified Landscapes, which seeks to accelerate the restoration of American beaver habitat and beaver-modified habitat at the landscape-scale in Oregon.

To testify on an agenda item virtually, register on the agenda page at least 48 hours in advance (by Wednesday, Sept. 11 at 8 a.m.). To testify in person, sign up at the meeting using the paper forms provided. Comments can also be emailed to  ODFW.Commission@odfw.oregon.gov.

To testify during the public forum section about an issue that is not on the agenda of the meeting, use the form on the agenda page, again at least 48 hours in advance of the meeting.
