ODFW to host Family Fishing Event at Trojan Recreation Lake April 19

April 15, 2025

CLACKAMAS, Ore. — The Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife will host a family fishing event at Trojan Recreation Lake on Saturday, April 19 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.

This event is designed to help kids and their families learn fishing basics and enjoy a day outside. ODFW will provide rods and tackle on a first-come, first-served basis. Staff and volunteer angling instructors will be available to offer assistance and answer questions.

Registration is not required, and fishing is free for kids 11 years old and younger. A youth license is required for anglers 12-17 years of age and can be purchased for $10 at ODFW offices, any licensed agent, or online at www.myodfw.com. Adults are also welcome to fish but must have a valid fishing license in possession. Licenses will not be sold at the event, so participants should obtain their licenses ahead of time or purchase them online via the MyODFW app.

Trojan Recreation Lake (also known as Trojan Pond) is one of more than 350 locations across Oregon where ODFW regularly stocks trout. For more information about fishing opportunities, including stocking schedules, maps, and guides, visit www.myodfw.com and check under the “Fishing” tab.

Trojan Pond is a 15-acre pond located approximately 4.5 miles southeast of Rainier on the north side of Hwy 30, near the site of the former Trojan Nuclear Power Plant. The pond is located on the right side of the road as soon as you turn onto the Trojan Access Road.

ODFW hosts similar fishing events around the state in addition to hunting and fishing workshops for all ages.
