The Fish and Wildlife Commission has moved to hybrid meetings, meaning that you have the option to attend in-person or virtually. Those who would like to provide virtual testimony on an Exhibit scheduled on this agenda must REGISTER no less than 48 hours in advance to receive a testimony link to the meeting. To provide testimony on an agenda item in-person, registration will be available at the meeting.

Reopen the recreational spring salmon fishery in the Columbia River downstream of Bonneville Dam
Adopted 5/16/2024: effective 5/17/2024 through 6/15/2024.
This amended rule will add days to the recreational salmon fishery in the Columbia River downstream of Bonneville Dam May 17-19, May 25-27, and June 12-15.

Adopt Non-Treaty Columbia River Commercial Mainstem Tangle Net Fishery
Adopted 5/16/2024: effective 5/20/2024 through 7/31/2024.
These amended rules authorize one commercial fishing period for hatchery salmon in commercial fishing zones 1-5 of the Columbia River downstream of Bonneville Dam on May 20 and modify allowable sales for fish harvested in the Select Areas during the mainstem commercial fishery.

Open hatchery Chinook salmon angling in Lookingglass Creek
Adopted 5/17/2024: effective 5/24/2024 through 7/31/2024.
This amended rule allows recreational harvest of hatchery Chinook in Lookingglass Creek from May 24 through June 14.
4. 635-023-0125
Modify the recreational spring salmon fishery in the Columbia River downstream of Bonneville Dam
Adopted 5/23/2024: effective 5/24/2024 through 6/15/2024.
This amended rule will add one additional day (May 24) to the recreational salmon fishery in the Columbia River downstream of Bonneville Dam currently scheduled for May 25-27 and June 12-15.

Allow waivers to retrieve excess derelict crab gear
Adopted 5/24/2024: effective 5/25/2024 through 8/14/2024.
This amended rule will allow state contracted vessels to recover more derelict gear under a waiver issued by ODFW than the amount otherwise allowed by rule.

Modify the recreational spring Chinook salmon fishery in the Columbia River downstream of Bonneville Dam
Adopted 5/30/2024: effective 6/1/2024 through 6/15/2024.
This amended rule will add 11 additional days (June 1-11) to previously-adopted dates (June 12-15) in the Columbia River recreational spring Chinook salmon fishery downstream of Bonneville Dam.

Modify recreational spring salmon and steelhead season in the Columbia River
Adopted 6/7/2024: effective 6/8/2024 through 6/15/2024.
This amended rule will expand the legal area to angle from a boat for salmon and steelhead below Bonneville Dam in the Columbia River through June 15. It will also open the Columbia River above Bonneville to angling for hatchery salmon and hatchery steelhead through June 15.

Set Recreational Salmon/Steelhead Summer Season and Enact Thermal Angling Sanctuaries in Columbia River
Adopted 6/7/2024: effective 6/16/2024 through 7/31/2024.
This amended rule sets the Columbia River recreational salmon and steelhead fisheries from June 16 through July 31 (summer season).
This rule also closes angling in portions of the mainstem Columbia River adjacent to the mouths of Eagle Creek and the Deschutes River, and that portion of Herman Creek and Lagoon within the Columbia River Zone beginning July 15.

Authorize Commercial Sales for Columbia River Treaty Indian Summer Fisheries
Adopted 6/7/2024: effective 6/17/2024 through 7/31/2024.
These amended rules authorize the sales of fish caught in several treaty fisheries. Sales allowed in Zone 6 (between Bonneville and McNary dams) platform and hook-and-line fisheries from June 17 through July 31.
Sales allowed in platform and hook-and-line fisheries downstream from Bonneville Dam from June 17 through July 31. Sales allowed in Yakama Nation Zone 6 tributary (Wind River, Drano Lake, and Klickitat River) fisheries from June 17 until further notice. Sales allowed in Zone 6 (between Bonneville and McNary dams) gillnet fisheries during periods from June 17 through June 19 and June 24 through June 27.

Steelhead Protections in Eagle Creek (Columbia River Tributary) and Deschutes River
Adopted 6/7/2024: effective 6/16/2024 through 9/18/2024.
This amended rule reduces the daily bag limit for hatchery steelhead to one fish per day in the lower reaches of Eagle Creek (Columbia River Tributary) and Deschutes River from June 16 through July 14 to align with regulations for the adjacent Columbia River mainstem enacted to provide additional protection for upriver steelhead.
This rule also closes angling in the Thermal Angling Sanctuary portions of Eagle Creek (Columbia River Tributary) and the Deschutes River beginning July 15.

Steelhead Protections in Lower John Day River
Adopted 6/7/2024: effective 6/16/2024 through 8/29/2024.
This amended rule reduces the daily bag limit for hatchery steelhead in the lower John Day River from June 16 through August 29, 2024.
