Feb. 7, 2025
SALEM, Ore.— The Fish and Wildlife Commission meets at Kliever Memorial Armory, 10000 NE 33rd Dr in Portland for a workshop on Thursday, Feb. 13 and a regular meeting on Friday, Feb. 14.
Thursday’s workshop starts at 1 p.m. and Friday’s meeting starts at 8 a.m. See the agenda and register to testify remotely here. The workshop and Friday meeting will also be livestreamed from the Commission page.
The workshop on Thursday is divided into two sessions. The first session begins at 1:00 p.m. and will examine the risks of road surface runoff to fish and aquatic ecosystems caused by 6PPD, a chemical used to prevent tire degradation. When 6PPD interacts with ozone in the air, it forms 6PPD-quinone, a substance that has been shown to be toxic and harmful to some aquatic life.
The second session begins at 3:15 p.m. and will focus on urban conservation, community engagement, and Oregon Conservation and Recreation Fund (OCRF) case studies from the Portland Metro area. A roundtable discussion with the Commission will include members of the OCRF Advisory Committee and OCRF grantees.
On Friday, the Commission will consider the following agenda items:
Oregon Sea Urchins: The Commission will be asked to consider a set of changes to ODFW regulations to accommodate interest in three activities: (1) recreational harvest of purple sea urchins for personal use; (2) commercial harvest of purple sea urchins for the retail seafood market; and (3) culling of sea urchins to assist with the conservation of kelp.
Private Forest Accord: The Commission will be asked to approve revisions to the Private Forest Accord Grant Program Administrative Rules OAR 635-97. Revisions will address project contracting efficiencies and lessons learned after Year 1 of the new grant program.
The Commission will also engage in a work session to continue discussion from the Jan. 10, 2025 retreat related to the Commission’s roles and responsibilities and processes that support a successful statewide commission.
To testify on an agenda item virtually, register on the agenda page at least 48 hours in advance (by Wednesday, Feb. 12 at 8 a.m.). To testify in person, sign up at the meeting using the paper forms provided. Comments can also be emailed to ODFW.Commission@odfw.oregon.gov.
To testify during the public forum section about an issue that is not on the agenda of the meeting, use the form on the agenda page, again at least 48 hours in advance of the meeting.
