This assessment was done at a cursory level and flags cases where conservation risks are acute, potential, or non-existent. It provides risk assessments for native salmon and steelhead, most native trout and other selected native fish species using interim criteria outlined in the Native Fish Conservation Policy (pdf). The NFCP interim criteria provide temporary guidance to ensure the conservation of native fish prior to the completion of detailed conservation plans for each species or group of populations.
The interim risk assessment provided in this report will guide priorities for conservation planning.

How to use this report
The Oregon Native Fish Status Report is divided into two volumes. The first volume, Species Management Unit Summaries, contains a brief summary of the assessment results for each of the 69 species management units assessed for this report. The Species Management Unit Summaries volume is intended as a reference document to quickly determine what the status assessment found for each species management unit. The Key to Assessment Summaries describes the layout of the assessment summaries and describes the graphics shown in each summary.
The second volume of the Oregon Native Fish Status Report, Assessment Methods and Population Results, contains a description of how the assessment of each species management unit was conducted. This volume was intended to explain how ODFW came up with the assessment results. The methods used to analyze data, as well as the data sources, are described for each of the six criteria. The salmon and steelhead sections of the Assessment Methods and Population Results volume also contain a one-page summary of the status assessment of each population.
The electronic version of the Oregon Native Fish Status Report contains a table of contents that combines both volumes of the report. A link to each species management unit assessment is provided in the table. The “Summary” link takes the reader to that section of the Species Management Unit Summaries volume pertaining to the particular species management unit. The “Methods” link takes the reader to that section of the Assessment Methods and Population Results volume pertaining to the particular species management unit.
The Introduction sections in each volume provide some of the background for the report and a description of the interim criteria used to assess the species management units. A Glossary is provided in the Species Management Unit Summaries volume to define some of the terms used in both volumes of the report. The Assessment Methods and Population Results volume includes a References section that lists all references cited in the report. This volume also includes an Appendix that contains a list of all native freshwater fish species found in Oregon and identifies which species were assessed in this report, which species were not, and those species for which insufficient information is available to conduct an assessment.
